POST COVID PHYSICAL THERAPY

Research indicates that as many as one in four of those infected with Covid suffer from chronic long-term symptoms including fatigue, dizziness, cognitive impairment and other conditions.1 These symptoms are associated with Post Covid Condition or also known as Long Covid. Our Post Covid Physical Therapy Programme is designed to meet the needs of each individual patient to regain their health and help return them to their previous home, work and social roles. The sessions can be either conducted in our clinic or online, and are available for both new and existing patients.

 

Through sessions, you will be able to consult our experienced physiotherapists on the best care and treatments for you based on your impairments and functional capacity.

ISSUES FACED BY POST COVID PATIENTS

Upon discharge, many Post Covid-19 patients still face many problems and have health issues left unsolved even after testing negative for the virus strain. These can include:

  • Issues with breathing such as shortness of breath and difficulty breathing
  • Body wellness including mobility, strength, muscular endurance and cardiac endurance
  • General fatigue and feeling tired
  • Problems with eating, drinking and swallowing
  • Issues with vocalisation and talking
  • Cognitive dysfunction such as brain fog, difficulty with concentrating, memory and attention
  • Mental health issues such as stress, anxiety or depression

 

POST COVID PHYSIOTHERAPY PROGRAM MODULES

Before you start the program, it is important that you go through screening with a licensed Medical Doctor to ensure that you are suitable for this program. Once you have been screened, you will need to fill out this Information Declaration Form to help our physiotherapists understand your current situation and which modules will best meet your needs. Our program consists of 6 modules designed to help return to your normal functions.

 

Managing Breathlessness & Breathing Difficulties

We will asses your current situation and recommend breathing techniques and lifestyle changes to help you manage.

 

Wellness & Strength

We will conduct a movement screening, functional capacity and postural analysis, and recommend suitable exercises which may include strengthening, stretches and a walking/jogging program. We will also share energy conservation techniques to help you cope.

 

Managing Voice Problems

This module includes voice exercises, jaw mobility exercises and other techniques to help your overcome voice problems.

 

Managing Eating, Drinking, & Swallowing Difficulties

Based on your current state, we will recommend techniques to help you eat, drink and swallow better.

 

Managing Problems With Attention, Memory & Thinking Clearly

We will provide lifestyle recommendations and techniques to help you improve your attention and memory, as well as think clearer.

 

Managing Stress, Anxiety, And Depression

We will help provide education on methods to help you improve your mental health.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What will I be able to achieve during the session?

The consultations will involve assessments, treatments advice and self-management techniques to help you on your journey to recover.

 

How long is each session?

The In Clinic Sessions are 45 Minutes and the Online Sessions are 30 Minutes

 

How will the session be conducted?

When you book your appointment, you will be requested to share your screening report from your doctor. If you do not have one we can recommend several doctors to you. Then you will be asked to fill up this Information Declaration Form for our physiotherapists to understand your condition better and we will confirm receipt of your form.

For Online Sessions, you will receive an email with a link that will take you to your online consultation. You can then click this link at your appointment time to get your online physiotherapy session started. The video call will take place through our secure patient care software that is covered by end-to-end encryption and multiple layers of security.

 

Do I need to prepare any equipment for the online sessions?

You will need a computer, laptop or tablet set up with a camera, microphone, and speakers. Please make sure that you are running the latest version of your web browser to ensure compatibility with the software. If you have previously used Zoom or Skype on your device, you shouldn’t face any issues. Based on which program module is being conducted, your physiotherapist may also ask you to prepare additional everyday items such as a chairs or drinking straws.

 

What if I don’t need all program modules?

The program will be customized to suit your needs. Some patients may require more therapy for a particular issue but not at all with another. Rest assured, your physiotherapist will advise the best course of treatment for you.
